His Unbreakable Mate(2)

By: AJ Jarrett

“Great,” Ryan sang the word out in a dull-sounding voice.

Samuel laughed as he fastened his seatbelt. He started to question again why he wanted to be a teacher.

It was early September and the sun shined down bright from the sky. The temperature was still staying close to the upper eighties and Samuel had no complaints. He loved the summer and warm weather. The trees were still green and full of lush leaves. The smell of freshly cut grass filled the air. Samuel took a deep breath, taking it all in.

“What the fuck!”

The car came to a stop right in the middle of the street. Samuel’s eyes shot open in time to see Ryan unbuckle his seatbelt and jump from the car.

“Shit.” Samuel threw open his door and raced around the front of the car in time to grab a hold of Ryan’s arm. “Ryan, what are you doing? You can’t just leave the car blocking the road like that.”

“What the hell does he think he’s doing?” Ryan shoved against Samuel’s hold, his eyes narrowed and his brow creased in anger. “I’m going to kick his ass.”

“Ryan, stop it!” Samuel used his larger body and strength to pull Ryan around to face him. “What has gotten into you?” He looked over Ryan’s shoulder to see Carson, sitting very closely, he might add, to another boy. Just then the boy leaned forward and kissed Carson on the corner of his mouth. So caught up in what he was witnessing, he loosened his grip on Ryan just enough for the kid to break away. “Damn it.”

“Get off of him.” Ryan came to a stop in front of Carson and his friend. He yanked the poor kid up by his shirt. The other boy stood at least a head taller than Ryan.

“Ryan what are you doing here?” Carson stood up, his hands shaking as he looked from one boy to the other.

“Hey, Ry, what’s the problem?” The boy knocked Ryan’s hands from his shirt.

“What’s my problem?” Ryan balled up his fist. “He’s fifteen, David.”

“Hey there, Carson,” Samuel said with a smile. He reached Ryan in time to grab his arm, keeping it down at his side. “Beautiful day, isn’t it?”

“Sam.” Carson let out a sigh of relief. “Yes, it is.”

“Not that I’m not happy to see you but why are you not at school?” Samuel looked down at his watch. “It’s only twelve fifteen. Shouldn’t you boys still be in school?”

“Free lunch period,” the other boy answered. “I’m a senior so I’m allowed to go off campus for lunch.”

Samuel cocked an eyebrow at Carson.

“I had a dentist appointment and I stopped for lunch before walking back to school.” Carson’s voice sounded so small. Samuel knew the kid was shy but he looked like he was about to burst into tears.

“Well I’ve got to get back.” David turned to Carson. “See you later?” At Carson’s nod of affirmation David leaned down and kissed his cheek then walked away. Carson turned to watch him go.

“You are not going to see him again.” Ryan pointed a finger at Carson.

“You’re not my boss, Ryan.” Carson picked up his book bag and put his arms through the loops. “I can do whatever I want.”

“Uh, no you can’t.” Ryan snapped.

“Boys.” Samuel tried to intervene.

“Ryan, you can’t tell me what to do. If I want to see David again I will and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.” Carson spun on his heel and headed toward the sidewalk.

“Oh, you want to bet?” Ryan ran after Carson and grabbed his wrist, yanking him back around. “I’ll tell your dads he’s too old for you and that he’s just a horny teenager looking to get his dick wet.”

Samuel cringed at Ryan’s word usage. As true as it might be, still not the best word choices.

“Oh yeah? Well I guess that makes him like every other teenage boy in the world.” Carson wrenched his arm away from Ryan’s hold. He took a step toward Ryan, an evil smirk on his face. “And guess what? Maybe I want to get mine wet, too.” Carson took a deep breath and shook his shoulders then looked over at Samuel. “It was really nice seeing you, Sam. See you back at school.” And then Carson was gone.
